The latest SSB Dec 2026 details are out: the first-year rate is 1.83%, and the 10-year average rate is 2.39%. We have finally broken the trend of increasing rates over the past several months. However, despite the lower 10-year average rate, this month’s first-year rate is much higher than last month’s.
SSB Dec 2026 Details

Although the 10-year average rate is slightly lower than last month’s, this month’s SSB Dec 2026 offering is still pretty decent because it offers a higher first-year rate. For those looking to park cash for the short to medium term, this month’s offering can be a better opportunity than last month’s.
Given the Fed’s recent interest rate hikes, ongoing inflation, and global geopolitical uncertainty, rates may remain elevated in the near term.

Historical Rates Comparison
With interest rates rising in recent months, how competitive are these SSB Dec 2026 rates?

The chart above shows the historical SSB interest rates over time. Rates were much higher in 2022-2024, with the average 10-year rates above the 3% mark. Even with the recent bump in interest rates, we are still nowhere near the rates of a few years ago.
That said, we might see better offerings if interest rates continue to rise in the coming months. However, it’s hard to predict interest rates with certainty. Therefore, if you’re considering placing your cash in Singapore Savings Bonds (SSB), this month’s offering is certainly worth considering.
Futures Rates Projection
As previously said, predicting futures interest rate movements is hard. However, we can still make an educated guess by following the Fed’s interest rate policy. In its latest FOMC meeting, the Fed hiked interest rates by 25bps, thus officially ending its rate-cut campaign.
The market also has similar views to the Fed by expecting more rate hikes in the coming months:

The market is even expecting another rate hike at the coming FOMC meeting in December, with an additional rate hike in 2027.
Should this projection hold, we can expect elevated rates in the coming months, in line with the broader interest rate environment.
Next Month’s Rates
But what about the immediate next month’s rates? We can make an educated guess for next month’s SSB rates by tracking the yield on the 10-year Singapore government bond.

The chart shows that yield rose in the past few months but then declined throughout last month. This is why this month’s SSB has lower rates than last month’s SSB.
Unfortunately, the chart doesn’t show a clear trend yet. Although the trend is down, it is hard to tell whether it will continue its current downtrend as global rates continue to stay elevated for a while.
You can continue to monitor this 10-year bond yield through the end of the month for a more accurate prediction of the upcoming SSB rates.
What Do We Do?
We love SSB because it lets us lock in rates for the next ten years while still allowing monthly redemption with accrued interest. We have used SSB to park our short- to medium-term cash allocation since 2023, when rates were peaking.
Given that rates for the SSB Dec 2026 issue are well below those of our holdings, we will not participate in this month’s allocation.
What about you? Will you participate this month?
